Who was `Abdu'l-Bahá, and why did He come to the West?

April 7, 1912 Is it a DREAM?

The Master's presence on the ship evokes an interesting question of His companions today:  Is it a dream or reality?  Wouldn't you be asking the same thing?  They were joyful--but today even more than before!  The journey takes them further to the land of America and further into bliss and wonderment!  It is happening for us, too, on this journey of light.  Today we shot footage in New York City of Arthur Dodge's home; the Museum of Natural History; Earl Hall at Columbia; the Church of Divine Paternity; the Ansonia Hotel--and other details of New York!  And then we gave a program to an enthusiastic crowd at Mark & Suzanne Bamford's home--an amazing response!  I think that everyone is full of joy and resonance, thinking about the Master. . . .

Mahmúd writes:  Sunday, April 7, 1912  [aboard the Cedric]
Before His morning tea `Abdu'l-Bahá requested that prayers be chanted. He offered thanks for the protection and assistance of the Abhá Beauty. When all of the Western and Persian friends were seated at the table for tea, He reverently expressed His thanks and gratitude for the divine favors. Each one of the friends was honored to be in His presence and asked themselves, `What am I seeing? Is it a dream or reality?'
In the afternoon some of the Western friends and a few passengers came to meet Him. He spoke in detail about the Bahá'í teachings of the oneness of humanity, universal peace and the raising of the tent of brotherhood and union. Everyone was interested and their hearts filled with joy and happiness, even more than they had been before.

Oh, 'Abdu'l-Bahá!  It is a dream to know you, and also a Reality.  Increase my astonishment and joy!
